On the rocks..

Southern Belgium might not exactly be top of the "must do" list for keen climbers, but there are some pleasant surprises dotted about southern Wallonia: not all the challenging climbs in the world are at high altitude, and views from the top are not necessary enhanced by a shortage of oxygen.

There are thirty demanding climbs in the region - all of them equipped and secured to the highest standards - with the stand-outs at Freyr, Dave, Yvoir, Awirs and Beez.

Access to all of them is free, but you must carry proof of membership of a climbing club that is registered with the international federation, the UIAA. www.theuiaa.org
