The next day we start our discovery of Brussels with one of the top sights the Grand'Place! The breathtaking baroque houses here were completed in 1695. The houses are topped by gilded statues of saints and heroes, rendered so vividly they seem to call out to each other. On summer nights music and coloured light flood the entire square. Most ground floors are occupied by souvenir shops, restaurants and taverns.
Next to the Grand Place you will find the Rue des Fripiers. Let the shopping extravaganza begin! Don't spend too much time on all kinds of ordinary shops, check out Sacha shoes. They just opened their completely redesigned store.
After having spend our first Euro's on this day, we are just a few steps away from downtown's trendy Rue Antoine Dansaert just in front of La Bourse the Belgian stock exchange. This neighbourhood has been a somewhat forgotten area for a long time, with lots of artists and people with low income. A few years ago, the world famous Belgian fashion designers like Olivier Strelli, Jean-Paul Knott, and Ann Demeulemeester opened their store in this lovely street with plenty of nice restaurants, interior designers etc.
Check out Natan if you are into the minimalist, high fashion look of Edouard Vermeulen.
