Gay Guide - Restaurants

Dream Cuisine

The EU and NATO certainly knew what they were doing when they chose Brussels as their headquarters. Combining French sophistication and northern heartiness the food in Brussels is second to none and the locals spend hours dining out. The bar and club scene gets going late in Brussels so there’s no excuse not to indulge in some fabulous food!

To sample some Belgian classics including moules et frites and waterzooi head to a traditional brasserie. Café du Vaudeville has one of the most perfect locations in town in the elegant Galeries St Hubert arcade where you can dine al fresco and people watch all year round. For mouth-watering oysters and crevettes make a beeline for Scheltema, one of Brussels old classic seafood restaurants that brims with  old time Gallic je ne sais quoi. In recent years a new generation of young chefs have catapulted Brussels’ restaurant scene straight into the 21st Century. Dotted around Place St Catherine near the gay village you’ll find a cluster of designer bistros where you can enjoy some truly wonderful creative cuisine. Switch has a cool monochrome décor, serves up exquisitely presented food and employs the most charming multilingual waiters in town. Viva M’Boma (long live Grandma) pays homage to the district’s working class roots with steaming cassoulets and a carnivore’s smorgasbord of weird and wonderful cuts of meat. Watch the sparks fly at Le Fourneau where you sit around a funky circular bar and watch the chefs fight it out to produce the most delectable game dishes in town.

If you want to join the gay night brigade in between bar hops try Mam Mam, gay Brussels’ favourite Thai restaurant. Enjoy huge bowls of fragrant soup noodles and the biggest smiles in town. Lesbian run Kika has fabulous swirling 1970s design and serves up cool bistro classics in a mellow lounge atmosphere.
