Durbuy was first noted in history when its 11th Century castle was constructed. As a result, Durbuy formed a key part of the defences of Luxembourg and La Roche.
In 1331 Durbuy received the title of “town” from Jean de Bohème for services rendered. Ever since then, Durbuy's inhabitants have prided themsleves on living in the “smallest town on earth”.
