Metternich in Malmedy in one of the most beautiful regions of western Europe. The original castle, built in 1354, was allowed to decay over the course of the 19th century and was completely restored in 1969 using 17 th century drawings. The history and location of the castle are both fascinating and in addition to the beautifully restored interiors, a private art collection including weapons, sculptures, tapestries and religious ornaments is open to the public. The grounds include an ornithological and botanical nature reserve.
