The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken

Tens of tonnes of glass and steel: a strange recipe for obtaining such a lightweight building! But this was bold gamble taken by Leopold II's favourite architect, who wanted a "little winter garden" adjoining his palace in Laeken. he wanted to house a real anthology of plants and tropical trees there, brought back from all over the planet. For just a fortnight, the public can wander around this very unusual world: in full flower, the rare tree species fill these vast spaces with almost intoxicating scents.
